 *acceptance n. 接受/答應,accept之名詞,(不可誤寫為acception)承兌(銀行票據)

The ~ of the accomplished fact is to recognize its legal standing.接受這個既成事實就是承認它的合法地位。
The publication receives general ~.這個出版物普獲大眾接受。

 2. except
except 可作介詞, 作「除了以外」解,可用在肯定與否定句,例:
a.      My grades are satisfactory in every subject ~ English.  除了英文外我每科成績令人滿意。

b.     We go to school every day ~ Sunday.除了星期日外我們天天上學。

c.      He gave us nothing except food and advice.他僅給我們食物和忠告而已。nothing except = only= nothing but

d. E~ otherwise provided in this section, the escrow must be closed within 120 days.除非這部分
另有規定,買賣須於120天內完成

(E~ otherwise provided 為常用正式文件中用法)

比較
He gave us advice besides food and water.除了水和食物外,他還給我們忠告= In addition to food and water, he gave us advice.

註】否定…. + except除了.之外沒有besides肯定+ .. 之外還有

【註解】:
made by= (which was)made by…. seeming = who seemedapart from=exceptrunning into..
= meeting someone by chance邂逅;from which=from the rooftop

彼此邂逅外; 他們每人均已計畫在新年除夕從此屋頂跳樓自殺。

比較excerpt n. 摘錄文

v. leave out (扣除;不計)
If we except his freshman grades, he has a good scholasticaverage. 如果他大一成績不算的話,他的學業平均不錯。

 exception n. (例外)
a.      There is no rule but has exceptions. = There is no rule without ~s. 每條規則必有例外= Every rule has exceptions.

b.     with the~ of…. 外;without ~毫無例外。 Cash only. No checks. No exceptions.” 本店現
金交易。不收支票。毫不破例(小商店的敬告語)

c.      People take ~ to building another nuclear power plant. 人們反對再蓋核能發電嚴廠。
(exception異議書/不服-法律用學字。take exception to = object to反對)

3.     expect 期待 vt. 用法:a. ~ that +子句 b. ~ + O. + to+V

We did not ~ such things to happen again. = We did not ~ that such thingswould happen again. 我們
未料到這樣的事會再發生。

Everything is in good order, as ~ed. 如所料,一切完好堪用。(as expected=as (it is) expected)

n. expectation(下列三句若以片語理解,更易記往)

a. It is beyond our ~ that such things would happen again. (出乎意料)

b. His main goal is to live up to the ~ of his parents. 他主要目標是不辜負父母期望。 (達到期望)

d.     His success fell short of our ~.他的成就未符我們的期望。(未達到期望)
