1. level n. 水準；平面 above the sea ~海拔；the ground ~ 底層

1. lie vi. (躺) 過去式及過去分詞為lay lain; 現在分詞為 lying

a. Not feeling well, he lay in his sleeping bag all day long. 因為不舒服他整天躺在睡袋

上。

b. I lie awake at night, counting….and recounting sheep. 晚上我一再數著綿羊，仍

無法入睡。【注意】：lie 常接形容詞或過去分詞:

lie still靜靜的躺著，lie hidden被隱藏著。lie ill in bed生癧

Do not let your money lie idle (要利用你的金錢) ； lie open暴露

c. Success ~ in hard work. 成功在於勤勉。(= consist in)

d. Let the sleeping dog ~. 勿惹事生非。

e. The theft lay heavy on his conscience. 偷窃使他良心難安。

f. The issue ~ s with the Congress. 此事由國會決定。

g. Let’s find out how the land lies. 讓我們發現事情的真相。

h. Let the matter ~ over. 延擱

i. Beneath his rough exterior lies a kind heart. 在他粗獷外貌裡面有一顆慈善的心。原句= A kind heart lies beneath his rough exterior.

j. Here lies a man who dedicated himself to helping orphans. 底下長眠的是一位曾致力幫助孤兒們的人。(外國人墓碑上常用詞句)  

k. His clothes were lying about the room.  他的衣服在房間四處放著。

2. lay vt. (置放) 過去式及過去分詞為laid  laid; 現在分詞為 laying

a. lay (put) money aside儲蓄

b. ~ the foundation of…奠定基礎；~ emphasis on=emphasize强調

c. ~ something to somebody’s charge委過；~ the blame for sth on sb歸咎於

d. ~ a tax on + sb. 加稅於

e. ~ waste = ravage= destroy蹂躪

f. ~ hands on = seize攫取；~ sb off臨時解僱; a lay-off

g. L~ your toy aside and do your homework. 把玩具擱在一傍；做家課吧。

3. lie vi. (說謊) 過去式及過去分詞為 lied, lied; 現在分詞為 lying

a. He was lying when he said he was hungry. 他說謊，當他說他餓了時。

b. It is a white ~白色謊言。

c. You lied to me when you said you loved me. 你騙我，說你愛我。

d. He gave me the ~.= He accused me of ~ing. 他責備我說謊。
