57) flight / fright / fight / freight:

1. flight n. 飛行，由 fly 轉成

*Fly with style to New York. 風風光光地 (體面地)飛去紐約

a non-stop flight 不着陸飛行, 即「直飛」；make a ~ 搭機

The non-stop flight from Los Angeles to New York takes about five

hours. 從洛杉璣到紐約直飛需約五小時。

Two “lost “Wane films take flight. 兩部約翰維恩過去的電影再度搬

上銀幕。

(take ~ 作起飛解) ；flight schedule 飛行時間表

*Tougher and more costly standards would still apply to devices that display a plane’s 

position in flight.更嚴苛與更昂貴的標準，仍應用於顯示一架飛行中飛機姿勢的一些儀器。(apply to應用於…；in flight= flying 飛行中)

*At the National Prayer Service, Rev. Watkins says,” In financial hard times, our instinct is flight.”

在國家祈禱會中，Watkins牧師說：「在財務困難時，我們本能

的反應是逃之夭夭」。flight此處作逃逸解。

flight n. 另作一段/連續的解：a ~ of steps 一段台階; a ~ of stairs一段梯階

2. fright n. 與flight不同讀音，作「駭怕」解： He is shaking(trembling) with ~ 他害

怕得發抖。

人+ take fright at +事- 對某事吃驚: People took fright at the blaze lasting for 3 

days in a row. 人們對火災持續三天吃驚。

*frighten v. frightening a. 令人害怕的事；frightened a. 人感到害怕

He was ~ed out of his life. 他怕得要死。= He was frightened to death.

*fight:  A ~ maybe, but not a battle.  或許是小型接觸；但並非一場戰鬥。

fight 作及物動詞用可接fight (n.) 即接同系受詞，亦可接battle 或war作受詞用。例：Last week 

we fought the toughest battle we ever had. 上周我們打了一塲最艱辛的仗。

其動詞變化為 fought, fought。

fight n.吵架，例：He gave in to avoid a ~.他讓步以避免爭吵。

The couple had a terrible ~last night.兩夫妻昨晚吵得能凶。

3. freight  [ fret ] 僅作n. 用。指陸、水、空的『貨運』；freight train 運貨火車，

運貨飛機叫air cargo；CIF (國際貿易用詞)= Cost, Insurance and Freight 

售價+ 保險費+ 運費 ; 另一常用詞為：FOB 船邊交貨價格= free on board

1. flee vt. = escape from danger 自…逃出。~ + 國家或家園，其動詞變化為fled  fled

Blaze forces people to flee homes. 火災迫使人們逃離自己的家園。

            

Scarlet, the actress, ~ ing Paparazzi hits a car.

這位女演員Scarlet，在逃離狗仔隊追蹤時，撞上一部車。

flee另作 vi作消失或逃亡解= vanish

Hounded by Nazis, Einstein fled to the U.S. and became a citizen in

1940.

因受納粹黨追捕，愛恩士坦逃至美國並在1940年成為美國公民。

2. free vt. 動詞變化為freed  freed主要用法：~ + Obj. + from + n. 使…自由，或~ oneself from duty /debt 免除職責/ 還債

free另作形容詞用：be ~ from+名詞：免受

They are ~ from persecution.他們免受迫害。

另外若free後接of，即~ be free of + n. 作『無』解：

meat free of fat = fat-free meat瘦肉，台語叫『成肉』。
