78) image / imagine / imagination:  

1. image  n. = likeness 形像；影像；映射 (大都指看得見)  

He is the very ~ of his father. = He is exactly like his father. 他酷似他父親。    

a.      What this city needs badly is to have its ~ made over.本市迫切需要的是

改變它的形象。

b.     Mrs. Clinton is cultivating an ~ as a centrist. 柯林頓夫人正塑造成為一位

走中間路人士的新形像。

c.      The ~-conscious Alexander makes a stop in Troy to pay respects at the tomb

of his hero, Achilles.重視形像的亞歷山大帝在特洛伊城停下，在他所崇拜的

2. imagine v. 想像.  ~ + n. /V-ing

If you can imagine it, you can make it a reality. 如果你能想像它，你就能使

它實現。

I~ living without electricity on that island! 在那島上沒有電氣的生活簡直不可想像。

**picture 作vt用有“想象”之義：

P~ a society in which there is no conflict, no jealousy and no unkind words.

想象一個沒有衝突、忌妒與粗暴言詞的社會。

3. imagination  n. 想像

a. Was it a reality or just an imagination? 是事實或想像？

b. It is totally beyond our ~. 完全出乎我們想像。

c. The destruction of human life bewilders the modern ~. 殺害人命困惑

了現代人的想像。

d. Tim Burton’s visual imagination fills the movie with remarkable

sights. Tim Burton 的視覺想像，使整部電影充滿許多了不起的景物。

1. imagery U. 意像 = mental images (指看不見的事)    

“War of the Worlds” is the first major Hollywood film to bring 9/11 ~ to theaters.

“不同世界間之戰爭” 這部片子是把9/11攻擊事件的意像，搬上銀幕的第一部

主要的好萊塢電影。

2. mirage  n. = illusive appearance 虛幻的外貌如海市蜃樓；妄想

 = illusion

 Did President Bush really begin a reconciliation with Europe this week, or was

that a mirage? 本周布希總統真正開始和歐洲和解，或者它是個假像?

注意：本字之重唸音節；garage  n.車庫；massage n. 按摩 但，message n. 信息；savage

n. 野蠻；cabbage n.白菜
