47) one, the one, it之分別：

《The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one. 》

在人生中你犯的最大錯誤，就是不斷地害怕會犯錯。(one = a mistake)

比較：

《We’re looking for a rewarding career and searching for a way to

energize the one we already have. 》

我們正尋找一個有益的事業，並尋找使我們這個已擁有的事業，有活力的方法。

(the one =the career) 

以上兩句說明不定代名詞one與the one 之分，前者指泛指性one = a + n.，後者則指已

提過的特定名詞 : the one =the +n.= it

玆列舉代名詞it/ one與the one/ a+ adj. +one:之辨別如下：

1. It = the +名詞*比較︰

Do you have a pen?  Yes, I have one. 你有筆? 我有。(任何pen)

I don’t have a pen with me; will a pencil do? Yes, it will do. 我未帶筆，

鉛筆行嗎? 行。(it =the pencil, 指對方提的pen)

* one (不定形容詞) = a  One word, many meanings. 同一個字有許

多意義。

                     

2. a +形容詞+ one (ones)︰.

a. For some mariners, the next battlefield is an emotional one.

對某些陸戰隊員，下一個戰場是感情的戰場---即和自己的感情交戰。(one = any battlefield)

b. There are three bears in the cage; one white one, and two black

ones. 籠子內有三隻熊；一隻白色的；兩只黑色的。(ones乃a one 之複數)

*Don’t waste a minute not being happy. If one window closes,run to the next one- or break down

 a door.

(連一分鐘也別感到不快樂；如一扇窗關閉，就找另一窗，或必要時打破

一扇門。) – 『要想得開』

(註：waste a minute not being happy= waste a minute in being unhappy)

3. the one = that (the +單數名詞) ；the ones = those (the +複數名詞)-

均指已提過的名詞。

比較︰

The pen I bought is more expensive than the one (=that) you have.

The pens I bought are more expensive than the ones (=those) you have.

我買的筆比你的貴。

*《Do not talk about dress, either your own or that of others. Perhaps you may

see some boy or girl poorly dressed; but what of that?  Cotton may be as clean as silk. 》

別談論衣服，不論是自己的或他人的。也許你會看到某一男、女孩子穿著不好，

可是，又如何？只要乾淨，穿著粗棉布也許同穿絲織品一樣高貴。

(第一that = the dress；第二that=前述的話) 但，也有不用指示代名詞︰

*《Tonight you said that the politics of lifting people up beats the politics of

tearing people down. 》今晚你們說激發人們的政治，打敗了拆解人們的政治。

(beat 亦可作「戰勝」解：

No one can ~us in tire price. 我們賣的輪胎最便宜。
