台灣俗語的智慧(25)

台灣俗語把好壞夫妻姻緣一語道盡，請看其與人生哲理有多少關連：

「嫁娶篇」-Taiwanese Slang on Matrimony

台語讀音及英譯如下：

1)    嫁著骨力尪，同心致富三五冬

Pronounced as: “keh dio kut-lat an, tang sim dih puh sahn goh tang”

When married to a hard working husband, the couple work hard unanimously, and become rich in less than three to five years

註：尪=夫婿；某=妻子；三五冬=喻短時間內

2)      嫁著貧憚尪，火燒菇寮全無望

Pronounced as: “keh dio bin-duanh an, hui shio goh liao zhuan bo ban”

When married to a husband who is

a lazy bone, all is hopeless just like a mushroom hut burned down.

註：貧憚=懶惰

3)      嫁著散赤尪，米甕定定攏空空

Pronounced as: “keh dio san chiah an, bih arn dian dian long karn karn”

When married to a husband who is

stricken with poverty, she finds the urn for rice always empty.

註：散赤=貧窮；米甕= 裝米用的小容器；定定=常常

4)      嫁著鱸鰻尪，心臟像底爆米香

Pronounced as: “keh dio loh muan an, sim zhong chiun deh pong bih pan”

When married to a rascal, her heart is like rice popped, always exploding.

註：鱸鰻= 流氓；爆米香= popcorn 爆米花，台灣用白米

5)      嫁著跋檄尪，勤勤儉儉無采工

Pronounced as: “keh dio puah kiao an, kin kin kiam kiam boh chai gan”

When married to a gambler, it is futile for a woman to try to save money.

註：跋檄= 賭博；無彩工= 徒勞無功

6)      嫁著風流尪，心情鬱卒袂輕鬆

Pronounced as:” keh dio hong liu an, sim ching oot zhut bue kin

      san.”

      When married to a husband who has so many affairs, she always feels depressed, unable to rest at ease.

註：鬱卒= 憂鬱；袂=不

另，「緣投尪，九暝空」。

Pronounced as:” yan tao an, kao meh kan”

意謂：風流瀟灑的丈夫，無法夜夜陪妻子

A handsome husband cannot stay with his wife every night.

7)      嫁著歹歹尪，認真打拼吃袂空

Pronounced as:” keh dio pine pine an, rin jin pah bianh zhia buei kang”

When married to a husband who is common-place though, she can be provided all lifelong.

註：食袂空=豊衣足食

「附註」：(台灣歌謠)

欲嫁尪，欲嫁尪；嫁著一個老大人。

(Pronounced as: buei keh an, buei keh an, keh dio jit eeh lao tua ran)-

意謂：想嫁人，想嫁人，想不到嫁給一位老頭兒。

嘴鬚鬍鬍，目睭突突，親像會社煙筒塊。

(Pronounced as: chui chiu hoh hoh, bat zhiu toh toh, chin chiun hui shia yan tang koh)

意謂：滿臉鬍子，眼睛突出，活像工廠的排煙管

(With whiskers and bulging eyes, he looks like a factory chimney)

8)      娶著水水某，歸瞑免睏免穿褲

Pronounced as:” chuah dio shui shui boh, kui meih ben kun ben ching koh”

When married to a pretty and sexy woman, he is kept busy the whole night through.

註：水某=艷妻；歸暝=整晚

另，「娶著水某歹照顧」 (Pronounced as:”chuah dio shui boh, pine jiao koh)

意謂：美貌妻子難伺候-  It is hard to please a beautiful wife.

9)      娶著賢慧某，卡好三個天公祖

Pronounced as:” chuah dio hian hui boh, kah hoh san eeh t’nn gong zhoh”

When married to a woman, able and intelligent, he has a housewife preferable to three grandfathers of heaven.

註：卡好=勝過；天公祖= heavenly father

10)  娶著有錢某，對著事業有幫助

Pronounced as:”chuah dio ooh zhin boh, dui dio shi giap ooh pang zho.”

When married to a wealthy wife, he can get some help with his career.

11)  娶著散赤某，勤儉持家好照顧

Pronounced as: “chuah dio san chiah boh, kin kiam keen geh ho zhiao goh”

When married to a very poor wife, he finds in her a thrifty housekeeper and good caretaker”

  

12)  娶著貧憚某，吃飽七逃嫌艱苦

Pronounced as: “chuah dio pin-duanh bo, zhia pah chit toh hiam kan koh”

When married to a lazy woman, he has her fooling around all day long.

註：七桃=閒蕩、鬼混；嫌=抱怨

13)  娶著跋檄某，定定出入拘留所

Pronounced as: “ chuah dio pua kiao bo, dian dian chu rib kuh liu soh”

When married to a female gambler, he has her going in and out of a custody.          

14)  娶著赤查某，親像惹熊擱惹虎

Pronounced as: “chua dio cha zhah bo, riah him goh riah hoh”

When married to a harsh and unreasonable woman, he has brought in metaphorically a wild bear and tiger.

註：赤查某=兇巴巴的女人；惹=招惹；擱=又

附註：(台灣歌謠)

欲娶妻，欲娶妻，娶著一個老柴把。

(Pronounced as:buei chua che, buei chua che, chua dio jit eeh lao cha peh)

意謂：想討老婆，想討老婆，想不到討到一個老太婆

頭毛白白，鼻子小小，親像厝內的飯犁。                                                                                   (Pronounced as:tao moh peh peh, peen-ah shuei shuei, chin chiun tsuh rai eeh b’nn reh)

意謂：頭髮白白，鼻子小小，活像家裡抓飯的瓢子。

Editor’s Comment: 譯者看法

1)      From verse one to 7, it is traditionally rhymed at: 冬、望、空、香、工、鬆、空；from 8-14, rhymed at 褲、祖、助、顧、苦、所、虎。

2)      Absurd or out of date as these slang might sound to you, they are vivid reflection of social customs, values in which the Taiwanese people lived several centuries ago. Compared with the times we are living in, we may find there exist some divergences in culture and mentality between then and now.  Nonetheless, some verses regarding human nature remain the same, still applying to the ways of modern times.

I.                  靈修的話

Time Has a Way of Changing Things

時間改變一切

Time has a way of changing things 時間能改變一切

    For better or for worse. 不論變好或變壞。

It sometimes brings a blessing; 有時帶來祝福

    Sometimes brings a curse. 有時帶來咀咒。

Sometimes we learn from our mistakes 有時讓我們從過失中學到東西

    And choose a better way, 然後選擇更好的方法

But there are some who stay the course 但有人卻固執原意

    That leads the soul astray. 而誤入歧途。

Mistakes are just a part of life 犯錯不過是生活中之一部

    That happen to us all, 任何人都無可避免

Still, failures can lead to victories 但無數的失敗能導致勝利

    If we rise each time we fall. 倘若每次跌倒都能爬起來。

II.聖經研究：

A.     中譯經文主題：

經上說：「我喜愛憐恤，不喜歡祭祀。」這句話的意思，你們且去揣摩，我本來不是召義人，乃是召罪人」- 馬太福音9:13。

B.      英譯版本之比較：

   1) Go and find out what is meant by the scripture that says: ‘It is kindness that I want, not animal sacrifices.’ I have not come to call respectable people, but outcasts.”-Good News Translations

   2) But go ye and learn what this means, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners. - American Standard Version

   3) Go and learn what the Scriptures mean when they say, ‘Instead of offering sacrifices to me, I want you to be merciful to others.’ I didn’t come to invite good people to be my followers. I came to invite sinners.” – Contemporary English Version

C.      個人看法：

1)      中譯的「憐恤」，有英譯為kindness, mercy, merciful, 和compassion，應含具體同情的行為。另中譯用「揣摩」，有figure out 玄外之音或深奧難懂之事，但英譯僅用find out, learn 應具不同意義，且原經文恐無故弄玄虛之義。

2)      中譯的「義人」，有英譯為the righteous (正直人士) ；good people, upright and in right standing with God, respectable people. 等，本人以為5) 之英譯較為明確

3)      中譯的「召」字意義不明，何為而召? 且召有召喚(call for) ，召惹(bring about) 等義，此處應指「召請、召集、召喚」，即含某種目的。Call upon some sinners to repent (for repentance)- 請犯罪者來悔改。上列5)之英譯較明確。

4)      大多數版本用sinners表示罪人，僅極少數版本用outcasts (被社會排斥者- persons rejected as by society)

綜合上列，姑擬中譯為：「且從經文中瞭解：我喜歡的是對困苦者有憐惜的心，而不是你們對我的祭拜。我來召喚去悔改的人並非正直人士，而是有罪在身的人」。

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A powerful, shallow earthquake struck southern Taiwan before dawn Saturday, collapsing two high-rise residential towers and killing at least five people and injuring hundreds. More than 220 people were pulled out from rubble, as rescuers raced against time to find dozens of others unaccounted for.

Firefighters and soldiers in worst-hit Tainan city scrambled with ladders, cranes and other equipment to the two towers that folded like an accordion in a pile of rubble and twisted metal and extracted dazed survivors.

Local media said the building complex included a care center for newborns and mothers.

The emergency response center told The Associated Press that five people were killed, including a 10-day-old infant and a 40-year-old man. They were pulled out of a 17-story Wei Guan residential building and later declared dead.

Local media said a woman was killed in a water tower collapse in another city district, and no information was immediately available for the two other deaths. The Health Ministry reported 318 people have been hospitalized.

One of the two towers was home to 256 people living in 92 units, according to the official Central News Agency. A second 16-story high-rise nearby also collapsed, and more than 30 survivors have been pulled out from there. It wasn't clear how many others were still trapped.

The news website ET Today reported that a mother and a daughter were among the survivors from the Wei Guan building, and that the girl drank her urine while waiting for rescue, which came sooner than expected.

Dozens more people have been rescued or safely evacuated from a market and a seven-floor building that was badly damaged, the news agency reported. A bank building also careened, but no injuries were reported, it said.

Most people were caught asleep when temblor struck about 4 a.m. local time. It was located some 22 miles southeast of Yujing, and struck about six miles underground, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

As dawn broke, live Taiwanese TV showed survivors being brought gingerly from the high-rise, including an elderly woman in a neck brace and others wrapped in blankets. The trappings of daily life -- a partially crushed air conditioner, pieces of a metal balcony, windows -- lay twisted in rubble.

People with their arms around firefighters were being helped from the building, and cranes were being used to search darkened parts of the structure for survivors. Newscasters said other areas of the city were still being canvassed for possible damage.

Men in camouflage, apparently military personnel, marched into one area of collapse carrying large shovels.

The quake was felt as a lengthy, rolling shake in the capital, Taipei, on the other side of the island. But Taipei was quiet, with no sense of emergency or obvious damage just before dawn.

Residents in mainland China also reported that the tremor was felt there.

Questions started to rise if the construction crew had cut corners when building the Wei Guan residential complex that was finished in 1989. The Home Department minister said an investigation would examine if the developer skirted requirements.

Earthquakes frequently rattle Taiwan, but most are minor and cause little or no damage.

However, a magnitude-7.6 earthquake in central Taiwan in 1999 killed more than 2,300 people.
