6) 一般感官動詞,如 hear, see, smell, taste, 因屬無法控制之動作,不可用
進行式
a. Art is long; time is fleeting.  生有涯;學無涯

b. The humble nickel is getting lots of attention these days. That’s because it’s being used to mark the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark bicentennials. 

(近來人們瞧不起的鎳幣正受到很多注意。因為它正被用以紀念購買
易斯安那州和與克拉克兩百周年紀念)(註:bicentennial 兩百周年)

c. We are looking at the stranger.  我們正注視陌生人。

d. We are closely observing (watching) what the magician is doing.我們正仔細
觀察魔術師做的表演。

但, watch, observe, perceive (觀察) , notice (注意) , feel  vt.  作「觸摸」
解時〕 則可用進行式。例外: .
see 不可用進行式,應用 be looking at
但,
We were seeing John off.    我們正給Jane 送行      
The police are seeing into the murder case.   警方正調查謀殺案。

Are you listening to what he is saying?  (你在聽他講話?) 但,
The judge is hearing the case   法官正聽審案件。

I am feeling cold (), 但,
The nurse is feeling his pulse.   護士正量他的脈搏。

The soup is tasting sweet. (), 但,
The cook is tasting the soup he cooked.  廚師正品嘗他做的湯。

The flowers are smelling fragrant. . (), 但,
The lady is smelling the roses.    女士正嗅聞玟瑰花。


7)Though I told him to mind his own business, he is always finding fault with me.  (我雖叫他不管閒事,他卻一再挑剔我)

1. look for 指尋找的動作,可用進行式:
He is looking for trouble.  (他在找麻煩) ** find 若指找到,屬於非持續性的動詞,則不可用進行式:

He is finding his watch  ()   (但,美語口語有把find用於進行式)
They are finding big nuggets in Alaska. 他們正在阿拉士加找到大金塊。
(上句應含always finding乃指一再發現。詳2. 說明)

He is looking for his watch  ((他正尋找手錶。) 但,
find fault with +人或事 吹毛求疵解時 則可以另find out =discover 發覺,亦可用進行式:

U.S. students are discovering the costs and admissions advantages of elite British universities.
美國學生們正發覺英國著名大學,較便宜的生活費用與較易申請入學的優勢。

2. be+ always, (often, frequently, constantly) + Ving 表示一再重複的習慣 動作:       
a. She was always crying bitterly when scolded.   受責備時,她總是痛哭

b. Mr. Brown is often forgetting my name. Brown 先生老忘記我名字。(指習慣)
  ** Note: remember forget 不可與進行式連用

He is remembering to read his e-mail. ()
He is always remembering to read his e-mail. () 他總是記得看他的電子郵件。

8) While we were studying in the library, a fire broke out. (當我們在圖書館讀書時,突然發生火警)

通常過去進行式 (past progressive) 過去式早發生。 本句當a fire broke out 
時,我們已study 且仍在study, 故用were studying.

His eyes were already narrowing on her. 他的眼光已聚集於她身上。
