direct  v.  指導；指引 ；director  n. 導演，主任

1. directory n. 電話簿 (含名字或地址) ；通信簿; telephone ~ = telephone book

You might dial 411 or consult the telephone ~ for the number of the school.

你可以打411查號台或閱電話簿就可以知道學校的號碼。

2. direction  n.

a. 方向：in the ~ of + n = towards 朝…..方向；* in all ~ s 向四面八方

The man is walking in the ~ of the Fisherman’s Wharf.  這人走向漁人碼頭。

b. directions   指示; 說明 (使用方法) – 限用複數：

You should follow the supervisor’s ~ closely  你應嚴格遵照督導的指示。

47) digest / congest:

1. digest  v. 消化； poor digestion 消化不良 * diarrhea  n.

2. congest  v. 擁塞 congestion  n.；a nasal ~鼻塞；** (have a running nose

48) disregard / regardless:  

regard  的否定詞：

1. regardless adj. 不拘 ; 不分：

a. She is ~ of her appearance.   她不重視外表。

b. Anyone is entitled to say yes or no, ~ of race, sex or creed. 不論種族、性別

或信仰，任何人都有權贊成或拒絕。

c. All the baggage was piled together ~ of passengers’ destinations. 不論旅客們的

目的地，所有行李全堆在一。

d. We will call you when we arrive, regardless of the time. 當我們到達時，一定會

電話通知你們-不論是什麼時間。

2. disregard v. 不顧 ；忽視：

a. They ~ my objection to the marriage.   他們漠視我對此婚姻的反對。

b. If you have paid the bill, please ~ this notice. 如果你賬單已付了，請不必

理會此通知。 (註：常見催繳賬單用句)

 ~ n.  ~ of + n. = lack of + attention (漠視)
