一、  背景簡介

本曲是由Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel (2 Jewish boys) 以高低音合唱的(duo) 的folk rock (民俗樂曲) ，由Simon所寫。此曲共銷售2,500萬張唱片，獲兩項Grammy Awards (格蕾美獎) 。迄今在youtube上被點唱次數，超過一千萬次以上。更不尋常的是，歌唱者是來自紐約Brooklin(布魯克林區)的兩位平凡小猶太人。在1970-90年代，猶太人在美國影藝界尚難有立足之時候，更令人刮目相看。當此曲唱紅時，其他大牌歌星，也來軋一角，如Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Aretha Franklin, Sissel -soprano等…但都不起眼。為什麼? 因為全球聽眾喜歡的是年青小伙子『自然純真』的唱法(-original version原唱版) 。論音色、唱腔、唱韻他們兩人遠不及大牌的猫王。而Whitney Huston(已故) 擬以搖滾樂(rock-n-roll)新穎方式唱出，也無法嬴過這兩小子。最重要一點是Paul Simon自己作詞，將自已的感情傾瀉於上。到底其歌詞內容如何傳神動人? 且看下列分析。

三、【個人看法】：

這是teenager(年青小伙子) 的英語，只重感情而不重視正確文法：

1.     weary= blue；feeling = and feel; feel small= feel insignificant; feel like a nobody感到沒沒無聞。

2.     be on one’s side= 支持

3.     times get rough日子不好過

4.     Like a bridge over troubled water. Like= as if彷彿；over跨越；troubled water指湍急的流水，香港人譯為『惡水』。此處指『困境』。比較：troubled waters則指受困之區：Do not fish in troubled waters. 勿趁火打劫。

5.     I will lay me down = I will lie down. lay及物動詞，lay應接myself才對。反正這是小孩子的英文!

6.     be down and out失敗或落魄

7.     evening falls so hard (on you) 被黑夜籠着

8.     take your part = take side with you衛護你

9.     silver girl = a shiny girl充滿希望的女郎

10. sail on繼續航行

11. your time has come…你成功的日子來臨了

12. ease your mind. ease使減輕負擔，正確用字應是ease you of your burden，因mind指頭腦與理智。但小孩子大家都用錯，就是大家對。這是『錯誤的哲學』

1.     it beautifully; like only he can! The song was not tailored to Art's voice; it was Art's voice that tailored the song! No amateur or famous singer remotely compares!

似乎只有他才能唱出這麼美的音樂。並曲並非為Art Garfunkel的歌聲量身訂做，而是他的歌聲裁製了歌曲。他的歌聲遠非業餘或名歌星可比。

2.     Best song ever...Simon and Garfunkel are timeless. My parents listened, I listen, my kids listen, and my grand kids will listen…..No better duo on the planet....

最佳名曲。兩人歌聲永垂不朽。我父母聽，我聽，我兒子聽，孫兒也會聽。是世界上最佳的双人合唱曲….

     這是我挑選為，將來我過世辦喪禮時的指定曲。

4.     Every time I hear this song my tear comes up. I wonder ifthroughout my life I'll meet someone like a bridge in this song.

每聽此曲時，我想知道在我一生中是否會遇到一位在我困難時願意支持我，作為我跨越困境之橋。

5.     香港人群眾集會，以正義聲援或支持某些受迫害人士時，常喜歡唱此曲，是香港人的最愛的『正義之聲』。
