八、動狀詞 (Verbal) (又稱變體動詞)
36)
The sign reads: “No dumping outside
of the trash bin.” (牌子寫著：「拉圾槽外禁止堆置拉圾。」)
dump v. 堆積 ； n. 一堆
no + Ving = Let there be no+
Ving 通常用在告示牌, 表示「禁止做…」
常見用法如下：
No parking
anytime. Tow away at owner’s expense. 任何時間禁止停車；
拖吊費由車主支付。
No stopping on bridge 在橋上禁止暫停。
〔注意〕~ parking 指離開駕駛座的”泊車’ ； ~ stopping 指未離開駕駛座；
“車子暫停”
的警告標誌)
No lifting (在商店) 禁止偷竊。
No littering (在美國公路上) 禁止亂扔垃圾。
No loitering (在某些公共場所之警告語)禁止在此閒逛。
No soliciting禁止推銷物品/招攬生意。但,
** 〔No right (left) turn 〕禁止右 (左) 轉。** 〔No U turn〕 禁止迴轉。
No turn on red 紅燈禁止右轉。
** 比較：
There is no + Ving = It is impossible
to + V. (無法做…)
There is no telling
(knowing) if he ever found his son. 無法知道他是否找到
他兒子。
There
is no denying the fact that she is a capable woman.無法否認她是位能
幹的婦女。
There is no accounting for taste. (人各有志-
無法解釋興趣。-同台灣俚語：
有人興燒酒；有人興豆腐-即各有所好。)
There is no satisfying
spoiled children. If they see moon
reflected in a pail of water, they must have it.
無法滿足被寵壞的孩童們；因為他們甚至會想在水中撈月。

shown; 因為是”被顯示
出來” 故用p.p.；as
此處作關係代名詞用， 其前述詞 (precedent)
