33) critic / critical:

以-ic結尾的字，可以當名詞或形容詞用，以-ical則多用作形容詞。

1. critic n. (專業) 評論家，an art ~ (藝術) 

* commentator新聞媒體評論員

*avant-garde前衛者Eugene Ionesco is one of the ~ of French playwrights.

Eugene Ionesco乃法國劇作家前衛者之一。

2. critical a. 危險的；緊要的；嚴重的；~ moment (point) 緊要關頭

a. The wounded is still in ~ condition. 傷者仍處在危急狀況中 。

b. The Invisible Superman showed up at the ~ moment. 隱形超人在緊要關頭

出現了。

c. A ~ element in remanufacturing is easy access to used goods. 方便接近舊物資

，就是再製造的一項重要元素。

【Taking the right medicine in the proper dosage is vital.  Knowing its side

effects is just critical. 】服用正確的劑藥，劑量又適當是重要的。明白劑藥

的副作用簡直更重要。

d. Research and development has gone from important to critical to life-or-death.

研究與發展已經由重要，變成到生死攸關的極重要。

34) criticize / criticism:

1. criticize v. 挑剔 = find fault with = take…to task非難

The official was severely ~ d.  官員受到嚴厲責難。

比較：condemn v. 指責；譴責 (disapprove strongly)；充公 (財產)

3. critique  (特指文藝作品) 評論

1. current n. 流動；water ~ 水流； electric ~ 電流

a. The ~ was growing more treacherous, and the saturated rope stretched like a

rubber band. 水流變得更靠不住，而整條浸濕的繩子像橡皮圈般延伸出來。

(註：treacherous 〔'trGtNDrDs〕a. 叛逆的 saturate〔's$tND`ret〕v.飽和的

stretch v. 延伸)

~ adj. 目前的，流行的 (prevalent) ，流通的 (circulating)

2. currency n. (貨幣) 流通幣制; ~ exchange 貨幣更換
