二. 形容詞 ( Adjective)- 形容名詞或代名詞

30) 食物烹調程度的表達：

How do (would) you like your beef? I like it medium. (你牛肉

要吃幾分熟？ 我喜歡七分熟。)

                

medium形容詞作 “中等的” 或 “半生半熟的” , “全熟” 應

說 well done

*注意：不可用half done 表示半熟，因它是指工作完成了一半 例， Well begun is half done.  好的開始是成功的一半。

* 比較

1. A thing done by the halves is not done at all.  凡事半途而廢猶如未做。

2. medium 另作 “中等” 的解：

a. A can of medium size is needed. 需要一個中等尺寸的罐子。

b. He is a man of ~ build (stature). 他具中等身材。

c. What size of blouse do you wear? Medium. (Large, XL- extra-large)你穿幾號上裝？中號 (大號，超大號)

( 注：blouse 女用上裝；shirt 男用襯衫)

*  minimum  最小；maximum  最大

但* medium n. 媒介；方法；其複數型為media n. 媒體 news ~ 新聞媒體

                                              

31) It is most kind of you to render me help. (你真客氣幫了我。)

 most + adj. = very + adj.

 原句 = It is very kind of you to render me help.

  = You are very kind to render me help. 注意：原句most前不可加the，但下一句則應加一the  

比較： He is the kindest of all senior citizens.  在所有老人中他最慈善。

32) Don’t lock the door; it isn’t worth the trouble. (別鎖門；不值得費事)。

【注意】：worth, worthy, worth while 三種用法的區別：

1. be worth + noun (Ving) ：(值得)

The novel is worth reading.  這本小說值得看。

The movie is worth the price. 這部電影值得票價。

*The point of art is to show people that life is ~ living by showing that it isn’t.

藝術的觀點是，要藉著顯示，人其實是不值得活的方法，來顯示給人明白人是值得活的。

2. be worthy of + noun  = deserve + noun ：配得上

 He is worthy of the name of a hero. 他配得上英雄的尊稱。 =He deserves (is worthy)

 to be called a hero.

3. it + be worth while + to + V = it pays to +V: 做 …事是劃得來   

It is worthwhile to learn to swim.  

=It pays to learn to swim. 學習游泳是劃得來。 

     

4. it + be worth one’s while to +V. 對某人而言做…事是劃得來

It is worth your while to learn a trade from him. 對你而言，作他的學徒是划得來。
