Anniversary

Anniversary
                                                                                 05/14/2014

Ladies & Gentlemen:

May, 14 is a day which marks anniversary of the Bloggers. One year ago we founded two Bloggers. One is for the Alumni; the other is “Here & There in English.” (strictly for English learning). All the year round, we have been dedicated to the service of the Alumni worldwide, without taking a break even for a single day.  Each day we have been posting new articles, pictures, photos, pps, videos, etc. The contents include but are not limited to forwarded articles online, current issues, and especially some essays, translations of our own writing.

We are very proud to point out the content of our Bloggers is diversified, or rich in varieties, including interesting stuff in life, world scenery, healthy food, health, philosophy, funny stories and general commentary regarding current issues, domestically or internationally….. etc..  In other words, we do not limit the content to some specific forums or topics, which might cause Alumni to feel bored in reading, sometimes.

So far the number of people visiting our bloggers has exceeded 26,000. The number is not quite satisfactory; however, it is increasing and acceptable. From the number, we have also learned that each day there are indeed some visitors to our Bloggers, wherever they might be. This renders us tremendous encouragement & support, further reminding us not to relax or abandon our dedicated efforts.

We are aware that the content of the Bloggers still leaves much to be desired. Therefore, every alumnus is cordially invited to participate or get involved in the compiling of articles, by generously providing some of his own writing based on viewpoints from his professional. We firmly believe that your gracious involvement will certainly enrich the content we cover in Bloggers, thus making fellow alumni more pleased.

We would like to extend our heart-felt gratitude to all Madame of Alumni, Alumni, and dear friends. Without their continued support, however insignificant it is, our achievement would be hardly possible. Special thanks shall be given to Mr. Tseng, Yuan-Yee, Mr. B.J. Hsu, Dr. Kuang-Chung Hsu, Mr. Tony Lai, & Larry Liu, Esq. etc...

Best regards,

(Tense  & Aspect):

3) From then on he became a well-mannered boy.

若單獨用then(當時)= at that time (moment) 亦用過去式
* Comp.: since then = from that time on until now (迄今) 則應用現在完成式
 (present perfect) 例:
Since then Jane has been punctual.

但, welcome  welcomed   welcomed

3. well- n. + ed = adj.
a well-mannered boy 有禮貌的男孩;a well-tailored suit 一套合身的訂制西服,但,*a custom-built house  訂造的房子(* a tract home成屋) a well-behaved boy    一位舉止端正的男孩

4) The day before yesterday we had visited the Smiths.

the day before yesterday 指前天, 故用過去完成式 (past perfect) 。

*Comp: By yesterday we visited (or had visited) the Smiths
By = no later than 不晚於; by + 過去時間副詞 (或片語),可與過去式
l  Yesterday morning she paid a visit to her aunt.

5) During the past decade, the population of this city has increased.

A. for (in, during) the past (last) + 一段時間   「最近多少時間以來」

a. In the last two weeks he has been idling away his time.
b. During the last century, there have been many wars.
c. In the past ten years, new model releases have increased by a third.

若僅 in the past (=formerly= previously 從前) , 則須用簡單過去式。

In the past, the publication’s focus was singularly technology.

They have been waiting for a chance these days.
In those days  (=at that time)  (在那個時代) 則須用過去式
They did not have paper money in those days.
