四、 副詞 (Adverb)：修飾：動詞、形容詞、另一副詞、

全句(前、後述)

39) about/ approximately/ or so:

There are 40 boys or so in class. (班上大約有40 位男孩。)

  or so  大約adv. 片語，須置於數目詞之後； about = around = approximately 則置於數目詞之前：

About 30 girls are joining the party.   約30 位女孩將參加晚會。

40) 修飾形容詞的副詞：

1. enough ：通常置於其所修飾的

a. 原級 (形容詞或副詞) 之後：                     

He is wise ~ to know the answer. 他聰明得知道答案。They work hard ~.

他們夠努力。 

* My new mechanic, Andy, seems like a nice ~ fellow. 我的新修車技師，安迪似乎是位很好的人。(= a fellow nice enough) 本句為口語英語- Colloquial English

b. 比較級 (形容詞或副詞) 之前

注意：其他類似用法的副詞：even far better 更好； even much more important  更重要；so much better  更好  still more convinced  更明白；

She is enough cleverer than her classmates  (她比其同學們聰明得多。)

41) Formalities are not necessarily required to create an agency

relationship. (未必需要正式規定-繁文縟來創造一個代理的關係)。

not necessarily (未必是) , 乃一副詞慣用片語， 常接於 be 動詞 之後。

formal  a. 正式的； formalities  繁文縟節； 正式規定

比較：not exactly   不完全是

     

42) Is there any more traffic on the bridge than there is in the tunnel?

(橋上的交通量比隧道內多嗎?)                                     

1. any   adv. more  a. 指量；any more + n. (比…多) 用在疑問句，條件子

句或否定句中。

We don’t have any more request   =We have no more request. 我們不再有請求。

2. not….anymore = no more 作”不再”解：

I cannot stand his sarcastic remark anymore = I can stand his sarcastic remark

no more.  我無法再忍受他的諷刺評議。

* 比較:

 No more do I see the starlight caress your hair. 我再也看不到星光吻著妳

的秀髮。(no more 修飾see)

 ** 注意：

1. 若將上句之 no more 置於句末，則意思不明。

I see the starlight caress your hair no more.  (no more 是修飾 see ? 或caress? )

2. no longer = not…. any longer   亦作”不再”解，多半強調時間

a. anymore (adv.) = at present = from now on = nowadays (目前； 今後)

I don’t drive to work ~.   今後我不開車上班。

b. no more 消失； 過世    

 i. Utah’s Lake Powell will soon be no more. 猶他州的鮑爾湖很快將消失。

 (注：Lake Powell = the Powell Lake)

 ii. He is no more = He is dead.  尚有其他  

** 「死亡」之表達法：

 = He passed away. 他逝世了。

= He expired. 他斷氣了

= He breathed his last. 他吸了最後一口氣。
