leave + Obj (受詞) + P.P. (被動) ~ + Obj. + Ving (主動) /Adj. (
leave 此處作不
完全及物動詞用，其受詞後之分詞 (或形容詞)
作為受詞補述語 (Objective
Complement)； leave 此處不作 “離開”
而作” 使….”解。例
a. The fever left the child crippled for the rest of his life. 燒退了卻使小孩
終身殘廢。
b. Tom robbed the boy of his
toy and left him crying. Tom
搶走了小孩的玩具，而使他哭著。
c. Leave the door open 讓門開著。
d. At this point we’d better leave
it undone. 此時我們最好將它保持原狀。
Do not leave your
baggage unattended. 隨時看管自己的行李。
Those vehicles left unattended shall be towed
away. 無人看顧車輛將予拖走。
10) Every case
that comes in with respiratory symptoms is SARS until proven
otherwise.
(每件符合呼吸疾病症狀之病例均視同SARS，直到證明不是才不算。)
1. until (conj.) 作連接詞, 其後省略
it (=the case) is; prove 證明 proved (pt)

until (it is) proven in a different way\

(有些人總是一延再延直到不得以才去看牙醫。)
1.有些動詞僅可接動名詞 (Ving) ；postpone 延期 = defer即屬其中之一。
2. 下列是常見之此類動詞及簡例：
finish + talking 講完話；avoid making
the same mistake 避免犯同一錯誤
Avoid making negative comments about a previous employer. 避免對前任雇主做
否定評論。 (說批評或罵他的話)
risk losing
one’s job 冒失去工作之險；practice playing
the violin 練習拉小提琴
suggest + taking
a break 建議休息一下； deny
+ stealing books 否認偷書
consider
+ rejecting an offer 考慮拒絕出價
detest
+ eating alone 厭惡獨自用餐；mind
